1. Partnership - Software and Climate Data: Persefoni and First Street are partnering to integrate First Street's advanced physical risk management capabilities directly into a new offering within the Persefoni platform. The result: Enterprises gain a "seamless way to access location-based climate risk data for their assets," the two companies said.
2. IT Services: CompuCom, a major IT services provider backed by private equity firm Variant Equity, has released its 2024 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The report mentions numerous sustainability and e-waste reduction milestones. The report also confirms 2050 as CompuCom's target for net zero. Still, CompuCom's report did not specifically mention the state of Scope 1, Scope 2 or Scope 3 emissions, according to our quick scan of the report.
3. Leadership: Katharina Beumelburg will join Heidelberg Materials as a new member of the managing board and chief sustainability and new technologies officer, effective 1 October 2024.
4. AI Images: Picsrt and Getty Images are partnering to bring "responsible, commercially-safe AI imagery to millions of creators, marketers and small businesses. This custom model, built from scratch by Picsart’s AI lab, will be trained exclusively on Getty Images’ licensed creative content," the companies said.
B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Investment - Consultancy: Searchlight Capital Partners and Ares Management are investing £500 million into RSK Group, a sustainability, environmental consulting and engineering solutions provider that serves clients across the Water, Energy, Construction and Infrastructure sectors.Â
2. Going Private - EV Charging Network: Meridiam plans to take Allego private -- the latest sign that EV charging networks are struggling in public markets.
3. M&A - Data Centers: European core and edge colocation provider Penta Infra, backed by lead investor Photon Capital, have acquired the newly-built Nexus data center campus in Brussels from international real estate investor and developer Ghelamco. Penta Infra’s European footprint now spans 11 cities and five countries. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

1. COP29: Azerbaijan is eyeing an energy relationship as well as trade bilateral cooperation with the Philippines, Manila Bulletin reported.
2. Global Coal Energy: More than 800 coal-fired power plants in emerging countries could be decommissioned and profitably replaced by cleaner solar energy starting from the end of the decade, Reuters reported, based on research from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA).
3. United States - The Inflation Reduction Act Winners? Republican leaders and their districts are the biggest winners of Biden’s green climate policies, CNN asserts.
4. United States vs. China - Clean Energy Infrastructure Tariffs: President Biden's tariff policy -- targeting renewable energy equipment imported from China -- may hurt the United States' clean energy transition, The Financial Times reported.
5. Europe - Carbon Border Tax Challenges: British wind and solar farms exporting power to continental Europe could face CO2 fees from 2026, Reuters reported, unless the UK and European Union can agree changes around the EU's carbon border tax.
6. Europe - Green Tech Challenges: The next European Commission must do more to help European industry catch up in the green tech race with China and the U.S., said Spain's climate and energy minister Teresa Ribera, a front-runner to be the EU's next head of green policies, Reuters reported.
7. China vs. United States - Nuclear Power: Â The U.S. may be 15 years behind China on developing high-tech nuclear power, Reuters reported, as Beijing's state-backed technology approach and extensive financing give it the edge, according to the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, a Washington-based nonpartisan research institute.
