Nutanix Power Management Dashboard

Nutanix Power Consumption Dashboard for IT Management: Coming Soon

May 29, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

The Nutanix Cloud Platform is slated to gain a power consumption dashboard -- though a target release date has not been announced.

A spokesperson for the company told Sustainable Tech Partner: "The power consumption dashboard is currently under development. We’ll be sure to share additional information when available."

An earlier announcement, issued in May 2024, said the dashboard will "help organizations improve sustainability planning." The dashboard will "track power consumption based on measurements from the hardware in use, updated in near-real time," the hybrid cloud technology provider said.

Thomas Cornely, senior VP of product management, Nutanix

In a prepared statement about the power consumption dashboard, Nutanix Senior VP of Product Management Thomas Cornely said: “Nutanix is helping organizations translate theoretical plans into actionable monitoring to support organizations in achieving their sustainability goals. This new functionality will help customers visualize power metrics to better understand and plan power utilization across their Nutanix environment.”

Nutanix: VMware Alternative and More

Nutanix develops software that allows customers to run their applications and data "anywhere" -- across on-premises data centers, hybrid cloud, private cloud and public cloud systems. Annual revenue was $1.863 billion in 2023, up 17.85% from 2022.

On the sustainability front, Nutanix already offers a Carbon and Power Estimator tool. That software, introduced in August 2023, allows customers to estimate annual power consumption and carbon emissions for various Nutanix solutions, the company said.

In many cases, Nutanix has emerged as an alternative to VMware -- which has suffered partner program turbulence under Broadcom's ownership since November 2023.

Carbon Emissions Software Tools and Sustainable IT Services

Numerous technology companies offer carbon estimator tools and real-time carbon monitoring tools for customers. Key examples include the IBM Cloud Carbon Calculator dashboard, the VMware Carbon Emissions Explorer Dashboard, and Schneider Electric's Data Center Carbon Footprint Calculator.

Among the business drivers for such software:

  • Environmental sustainability is now a Top 10 business priority for CEOs, according to Gartner.
  • By 2025, 50% of CIOs will have specific performance metrics tied to energy consumption, according to Gartner.
  • By 2026, 75% of organizations will increase their business engagement with IT vendors that have clear sustainability goals. Those same CIOs will seek to replace vendors that don't have sustainability goals, according to Gartner.
  • By 2027, 75% of organizations will have implemented a data center infrastructure sustainability program, up from less than 5% in 2022, Gartner predicted.

Still, the shift to sustainable IT services faces headwinds. The evidence: Only 16.7% of IT professionals considered sustainability a top issue, and only 38.7% consider it a priority at all, according to The Register.
