May 13, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Tongyu Xu (pictured above) will join FACC AG as chief sustainability officer (CSO) on May 15, the lightweight aerospace company announced.

Here are four things to know about Xu and FACC AG's sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: FACC AG, founded in 1989, is based in Ried Im Innkreis, Austria. The company designs, develops and produces advanced aircraft components and systems for aerospace clientele. FACC AG, backed by roughly 3,500 employees, generated €736 million ($793 million) in turnover for fiscal year 2023.

2. Sustainability Strategy: FACC AG is striving to achieve carbon-neutral production by 2040. Near term goals involve widespread LED lighting in 2024, and a 40% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 (compared to 2008). In Austria, the company purchases electricity exclusively from hydropower, while the use of geothermal energy has a long tradition at FACC, CEO Robert Machlinger pointed out in the company's 2022 sustainability report.

3. Chief Sustainability Officer - Professional Experience: Xu has more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. His expertise spans supply chain management, lean transformation, operational improvement and customer management, FACC Ag said. Xu previously was executive VP of AVIC Cabin Systems & chairman of AVIC Cabin Systems UK.

FACC AG Chief Sustainability Officer: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
