1. Fast Growth: Cove.tool, a provider of technology-enabled sustainability and architecture consulting, ranks No. 1204 on the 2024 Inc. 5000, an annual ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in America, the startup said.
2. Exit - Chief Sustainability Officer: Rosa Sangiorgio, head of sustainability at Pictet Wealth Management, will exit the company in September 2024 to focus on her advisory company -- known as RSG Impact Investing, according to CityWire.
3. AI Cloud Services & Clean Energy: Iberdrola, one of the world’s largest clean energy companies, has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider for generative artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. Iberdrola will use Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, to develop GenAI applications that "drive efficiency, personalize customer-facing interactions, and improve energy production processes," the companies said.
4. AI PCs: Lenovo's AI PC strategy includes a sustainability focus, Lenovo Executive Director Tom Butler told CounterPoint Research.
B. Sustainability M&A, Investments, Funding and Green IT Business Launches
1. Accelerator: Amazon has announced its Clean Energy Accelerator 4.0 cohort. Key areas of focus include Amazon Operations Sustainability; Generative AI for clean energy; water tech acceleration; energy storage; grid modernization and security; and alternative fuels.
2. Financial Services - Clean Energy Loans: Billionaire Tom Steyer’s clean-energy investment firm, Galvanize Climate Solutions, is raising money to start a lending operation that will support the green transition, Bloomberg reported.
3. ESG Investments - Reality Check: The wave of anti-ESG sentiment that fueled a global retreat from the investing strategy is now showing signs of losing steam, Bloomberg reported, based on statements from Deutsche Bank AG.
4. Data Centers For Sale? French private equity firm InfraVia Capital Partners may sell Swiss data center operator Green for about $1.1 billion, Bloomberg reported.
5. M&A - Nuclear Power and Data Center Debate: AWS's effort to acquire a data center and power it with nuclear energy now faces a regulatory battle, IEEE reported.
6. M&A - Data Centers: RadiusDC, backed by private equity firm IPI Partners, has acquired a network-centric data center in Miami, Florida. The data center, spanning roughly 170,000 square feet, is designed to withstand Category 5 hurricane winds. According to the buyer: "The data center currently integrates 14% solar energy as part of Florida Power & Light’s (FPL) fuel mix, reflecting our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint. As the demand for renewable energy grows, we are fully prepared to increase our utilization of green energy sources to ensure that our practices remain aligned with both our customers' needs and our sustainability goals." The seller was NextStream, a data center operator in Latin America owned by Actis.
