July 2, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Here is today’s sustainable IT services news, research and analysis -- written for technology partners, green IT service providers, CIOs, chief sustainability officers (CSOs) and climate accounting professionals.

A. Sustainable Technology, Talent, Partnerships and Green IT Alliances

1. Consulting - New CEO: Antea Group UK, an environment, health, safety, and sustainability (EHS&S) consulting firm, has hired Delta-Simons veteran Alex Ferguson as CEO.

2. Partnership - Building Energy Management: The West Plains Housing Authority (WPHA) in Missouri has partnered with Johnson Controls to modernize 273 low-income housing units. The effort, supported by multiple funding sources and requiring no initial capital investment, aims to achieve a 32% reduction in carbon emissions and a 40% decrease in water consumption. Projected savings are estimated to approach nearly $200,000 annually. Construction is expected to start in the fall of 2024.

3. Sustainable Logistics Database: The Fleet Sustainability Index, a searchable database, has expanded to include 100+ carriers that operate electric trucks and thousands of carriers that operate natural gas trucks.

4. Research - Sustainability Perspectives: Roughly 56% of workers believe their company is advancing human sustainability, versus 82% of the C-suite, Deloitte research found.

5. Research - CIO Perspectives: Roughly 92% of CIOs are investing in sustainability initiatives or technologies this year, a Logicalis survey revealed.

6. Annual Report - Data Management: Stibo Systems, a master data management (MDM) solutions provider, released its 2023-24 Annual Report -- which features multiple business and sustainability milestones.

7. Restaurants - Renewable Energy: More than 130 Wendy’s restaurants are enrolled in community solar and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) with Ampion. The enrolled restaurants will source between 30% and 100% of their energy from solar without the need to install solar panels onsite, Ampion said.

8. Carbon Credit Concerns: The market for carbon credits is facing a renewed wave of opposition, Bloomberg reported, as climate activists deliver a fresh warning to companies and governments not to use such financial instruments to offset their emissions. More than 80 nonprofits have teamed up to declare that carbon offsets are undermining genuine net zero action, the report said, and are now calling for the total blacklisting of such instruments in climate regulations and guidelines.

9. Solar Energy - Software: Enphase Energy's cloud-based proposal software, called Solargraf, is now available in the Netherlands. Solar installers in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany and Austria already use the software for 3D modeling, cost estimates, battery design and more.

Financial terms of the Origin Energy investment were not disclosed.
