Genus Capital Management Names Stephanie Tsui as Chief Sustainability Officer: 4 Things to Know

October 15, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Genus Capital Management has promoted Stephanie Tsui to chief sustainability officer (CSO). Here are four things to know about the financial services organization, and Tsui's executive experience.

1. Business Focus, Scope and Scale: Genus Capital Management, founded in 1989, is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The company provides sustainable investing solutions for corporate and institutional investors, foundations, family offices and individual accredited investors. Genus has roughly 50 employees listed on LinkedIn as of October 13, 2024.

2. Sustainability Focus: Genus supports the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The company is a B Corp -- which means Genus has been certified to meet certain social and environmental standards.

3. Chief Sustainability Officer: Stephanie Tsui, previously head of foundations and non-profits at Genus, succeeds Mike Thiessen as the CSO. Thiessen is moving on to "pursue other impactful contributions in the Canadian Impact sphere," the company said.

Tsui joined Genus in 2016, and most recently was head of foundations and non-profits. She previously was a director at Credit Suisse (2013-2016); and executive director at Goldman Sachs Asia (2010-2013).

Tsui's "extensive experience with foundations and non-profit organizations has provided her with valuable insights into the strategies and values essential for advancing Genus's sustainability initiatives," the company said.

Stephanie's appointment as CSO reflects our dedication to maintaining our leadership in sustainable investment solutions. Her expertise and passion will help us build on our reputation as one of Canada's leading sustainable investment firms."

Added Stephanie Tsui: "I am honoured to take on the role of Chief Sustainability Officer at Genus. My work with foundations and non-profits has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the power of values-driven investment strategies. I am committed to leveraging my experience and the trust our clients place in us to further integrate sustainability into everything we do at Genus."

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
