Suir Engineering Hires Ellie Walshe as Head of Sustainability: 4 Things to Know

June 26, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Suir Engineering has hired Davy Horizons veteran Ellie Walshe as head of sustainability, the European firm said.

Here are four things to know about Walshe's experience and Suir Engineering's business focus.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Suir Engineering, founded in 1984, is based in Waterford, Ireland. The company also has offices in Dublin, the United Kingdom, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Frankfurt. Suir offers mechanical, electrical and instrumentation engineering services across such sectors as pharma; energy & utilities; food & beverage; and data centers. The company, backed by 1,500 employees, generates roughly €430+ million in annual revenue, according to Suir's LinkedIn page.

2. Head of Sustainability Role: Ellie Walshe will lead the development and implementation of Suir Engineering’s sustainability strategy, the company said. Suir has an Environmental and Sustainability Policy, but we don't know if the company has specific Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 targets, or a Net-Zero goal.

Overall, Walshe will "focus on mitigating risks and promoting opportunities across all material ESG impacts. Additionally, Ellie will ensure compliance with non-financial reporting requirements, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Taxonomy," the company said.

3. Experience and Expertise: Ellie began her sustainability career in 2012 as an Environmental Consultant at Worley Parsons, Suir noted. Thereafter, she climbed the executive ranks at Costain Group PLC, Mace, mac-group, and Davy Financial Services.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Suir Engineering CEO John Kelly said: “We have made significant strides in our sustainability journey, but we recognise the need to do even more, hence the creation of this new senior role. Ellie’s appointment is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to not only operating more sustainably but to making a real difference in our governance structure. Her expertise in social and environmental management aligns to our objectives and vision for the business and this new role will be central in redefining and driving Suir Engineering’s long-term strategy for Ireland and across Europe.”

Head of Sustainability: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The financial services industry in particular, faces numerous sustainability challenges and associated regulations. As does the real estate sector.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
