Window Maker Andersen Hires George Bandy as Chief Sustainability Officer: 4 Things to Know

August 22, 2024 by Joe Panettieri

Andersen Corp. has hired Darling Fibers and Amazon circular economy veteran George Bandy as VP and chief sustainability officer (CSO), the window and door manufacturer announced.

Here are four things to know about George Bandy's experience and expertise, and Andersen's sustainability strategy.

1. Business Scope and Scale: Andersen, founded in 1903, is based in Bayport, Minnesota. The company, backed by roughly 13,000 employees, has manufacturing sites across North America and Europe.

2. Sustainability Strategy: Andersen's sustainability strategy spans various environmental, renewable energy and product certifications. Among the anecdotes to note: The Home Depot named Andersen as an Eco Actions Partner -- which recognizes the window and door maker for environmentally-focused manufacturing efforts. Also, Andersen earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2024 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. Still, we don't know if Andersen has announced a net zero deadline or various carbon reduction targets.

3. George Bandy's Experience: Bandy previously was CSO at Darling Fibers, a polyester chip and fiber manufacturer. Earlier, he was head of worldwide circular economy at Amazon. He has also held CSO- and VP-level posts at such organizations as Mohawk Group, Interface and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Bandy joins a "dedicated team of sustainability practitioners" at Andersen, though we don't the organization's size or experience levels.

4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Andersen President and CEO Chris Galvin said: "At Andersen, we are steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of today without compromising the needs of future generations. We know our success relies heavily on the health and resiliency of the communities where we live and work, and protecting people and our planet is more important than ever. With George at the helm, this new leadership position will accelerate our sustainability journey as we work every day to make decisions that help our customers achieve their sustainability aspirations, elevate our industry and ultimately help make the world a better place."

Chief Sustainability Officers: Why Technology Partners Should Care

By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.

The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
