NTT Data Accelerates Net-Zero Transition Commitment

NTT Data, the global IT consulting and IT services company led by CEO Yo Honma, has accelerated its net-zero carbon emissions plan by 10 years. Indeed, NTT Data's new target deadline for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) is now 2040 -- compared to the previous target of 2050.

What drove the accelerated deadline? The new deadline was "developed in response to the growing call worldwide to accelerate measures to achieve Net-Zero carbon emissions," the company said in a statement.

Take a closer look at the plan, and the company now aims to:

• Achieve Net-Zero for direct and indirect emissions from its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) for data centers by 2030;
• the entire company including offices and other facilities by 2035; and
• its entire supply chain (Scope 3) by 2040.

NTT Data: Sustainability Strategy and Partnerships

NTT Data and its sister companies have inked multiple sustainability partnerships in recent months. Example developments include:

• May 2023: NTT and Cisco Systems partnered to promote IoT (Internet of Things) as a service capabilities that help customers meet their sustainability goals.
• April 2023: NTT, NTT Anode Energy, NEC and NEC Platforms partnered on multiple fronts to promote the decarbonation of society. The effort reinforces how some IT companies and energy companies are connecting the dots between information technology and sustainability.
• January 2023: NTT DATA, e-Magic and Microsoft partnered to launch a sustainability application that leverages Microsoft Azure Digital Twins technology.

The company – a part of NTT Group – provides f IT and business services. The business, headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, serves customers in over 50 countries.

The company also operates NTT Data Business Solutions, which focuses on the SAP application sector. For its fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, NTT Data Business Solutions said:
