Smiths Group, a global industrial technology company, has promoted Kini Pathmanathan to head of Smiths Excellence and Sustainability.
Here are four things to know about Pathmanathan's experience and Smiths Group's sustainability strategy.
1. Business Scope and Scale: Smiths Group, founded in 1851, is based in London, United Kingdom. The company, backed by roughly 15,000 employees, focuses on four global market opportunities: Energy, General Industry, Safety & Security, and Aerospace.
2. Sustainability Strategy and Milestones: Smiths Group plans to achieve net zero emissions for Scope 1 & 2 operations by 2040 and Scope 3 by 2050. In FY2023, key achievements included:
Reducing absolute GHG emissions by 12%;
improving energy efficiency by 8%; and
increasing the renewable portion of total energy usage to 70%.
3. Executive Experience: Kini Pathmanathan previously was VP of HR for John Crane, Smiths largest business by revenue. Earlier, she led HR for Smiths Detection and Smiths Asia Pacific. Before joining Smiths, Kini was VP of HR at Thales UK.
In her new role, Pathmanathan succeeds two executives -- former Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) John Ostergren and former Director of Smiths Excellence System Tony Tielen. We don't if or when Ostergren and Tielen will announce their next career moves.
4. Executive Perspectives: In a prepared statement, Smiths Group CEO Roland Carter said: “Kini is joining our Executive Committee at an exciting time as we continue to identify opportunities for further growth and value creation. I look forward to welcoming Kini, whose deep experience in strategic leadership and continuous improvement will be invaluable to our future growth story."
Carter also thanked former CSO John Ostergren and former Director of Smiths Excellence System Tony Tielen for their work at the company, stating: “I would like to thank John for his sustainability leadership over the last several years at Smiths, helping raise the profile of our ESG credentials, and I would like to thank Tony for his dedicated service of the past nine years. His work for Smiths spanned various international assignments including Germany, France, Benelux and UK. John and Tony have laid strong foundations leaving us well-placed to build on this work. I send my sincere wishes and continued professional success to them both."
Smiths Group Sustainability Leader: Why Technology Partners Should Care
By 2027, 25% of Global 2000 companies will have assigned a chief sustainability officer (CSO) responsible for meeting their organization’s ESG goals and making ESG-related IT purchasing decisions, according to IDC.
The bottom line: Technology partners need to extend their sales, marketing, engagement and support strategies to successfully fulfill those CSO customer needs, Sustainable Tech Partner believes.
