IT Asset Disposition and Disposal (ITAD): Expanded Partner Opportunities Emerge

October 3, 2023 by Joe Panettieri

How can technology partners drive down e-waste and generate revenues from IT lifecycle management? One answer may involve IT asset disposition or disposal -- commonly known as ITAD.

Joe Pittillo, senior VP, services, TD Synnex

Recent developments, partnerships and market research suggest the ITAD market is ripe for resellers, channel partners and IT service providers (ITSPs). Among the latest developments:

IT Asset Disposition (ITAD): Market Growth Forecast, Trends

Those moves arrive at a key time for channel partners. Indeed, the global ITAD market will reach $57.4 billion by 2032, up from $19.9 billion in 2022, according to Allied Market Research. That's an 11.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during the forecast period, the market researcher said.

Multiple factors are driving demand for ITAD services. For instance:

  • Remote work and hybrid work, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has forced partners and businesses to more closely track IT assets across more locations -- including central and remote offices, home offices and every other place a remote worker can potentially surface.
  • Established and emerging regulations -- such as the EU Climate Law, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), SEC Climate Rule (pending as of September 2023) and California SB 253 (pending as of September 2023) -- has prompted large businesses to rethink their supply chains and partner ecosystems.

Or as Canalys and Cisco Systems research stated in a September 2023: "Sustainability, which until now has been more prevalent in professional services, logistics, and device management specialists has become an immediate issue due to new regulations, particularly with the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive."

Amid those market realities, CIOs are seeking technology partners that can assist their sustainability efforts. And multiple technology companies are eager to answer the call for help.

IT Asset Disposition (ITAD): Distribution Partnership

For instance, Dynamic Lifecycle Innovation and TD Synnex are partnering to offer "complete" IT asset lifecycle management solutions. The relationship provides TD Synnex partners and customers with "industry-leading certifications, closed loop chain of custody, complete data and brand security, datacenter decommissioning, available service and portal white labeling, and onsite technical and white glove services," the two companies said.

Moreover, Dynamics develops an ESG report and carbon calculator, which allows users to calculate how the Scope 3 emissions they can potentially avoid through IT reuse and recycling.

In a prepared statement about the partnership, Joe Pittillo, senior vice president, services at TD SYNNEX. "With Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations added to our vast portfolio of vendor partners, we're able to enrich the breadth and depth of our ITAD offerings so customers can address their top priorities of corporate citizenship and sustainability."

Added Miles Harter, CEO of Dynamic Lifecycle Innovations: “In the ever-evolving and consolidating ITAD space, TD SYNNEX partners and clients can have confidence in the quality of Dynamic’s services and our commitment to protect their brand. We are proud to be a member of the ServiceSolv team, and are thrilled to represent TD SYNNEX by protecting its clients’ interests with over 16 years of expertise in providing global ITAD solutions.”

IT Asset Disposal (ITAD): ScalePad Expands MSP Software Platform

Meanwhile, ScalePad's IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) software allows MSPs to safely and efficiently dispose of decommissioned IT assets and peripherals, the company asserts. The ITAD capabilities are part of ScalePad's Lifecycle Manager software.

In the United States, Lifecycle Manager Pro Partners can now dispose of workstations, servers, switches, tablets, hard drives, scanners, IP phones, monitors/LCDs, APC/UPS units, and many other IT assets, ScalePad said. The service ensures both data security and environmental responsibility. An associated "white glove bulk disposal" support service is built into an in-app order process, the company said.

Dan Wensley, CEO, ScalePad

For every asset disposed of or protected by a warranty through the ScalePad Services Marketplace, ScalePad plants a tree as part of an initiative to reforest US regions devastated by wildfires. Together with veritree, ScalePad has planted 12,362 trees, equalling 20.7 reforested acres and 5,068 tonnes of CO2 sequestered since announcing its restorative partnership in March 2023, the company said.

In a prepared statement about ScalePad's efforts, CEO Dan Wensley said: "At ScalePad, we’re dedicated to continually improving our offerings to meet our Partners evolving needs, and these updates reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence in IT asset management. We’re committed to keeping IT waste out of landfills while providing our partners a better solution and increasing the value delivered to customers. So we’ve dramatically increased the scope of our disposal offering from only workstations to covering virtually all types of assets.”

On a related note, ScalePad is one of several MSP-oriented companies that increasingly focuses on green IT and sustainability services.
