CES 2023: Sustainable Technology Grabs Consumer Electronics Show Spotlight

January 9, 2023 by Joe Panettieri

Sustainability was a major theme at CES 2023 -- the major consumer electronics show held in Las Vegas. Indeed, mobile device makers and consumer electronics companies -- including Microsoft, Panasonic, Samsung and Schneider Electric -- touted new developments at the conference.

Among the messages to note:

1. Microsoft: The software and cloud services giant touted five major mobility trends for automobile makers. Chief among them: Creating sustainable, collaborative supply chains that improve resilience, according to Microsoft GM Sanjay Ravi.

2. Panasonic: The consumer electronics company announced Take Back for Tomorrow to promote recycling of electronic personal care devices such as shavers and trimmers. As part of a Green Impact strategy, Panasonic is striving to reduce CO2 emissions from its own operations to "virtually net-zero by 2030," the company indicated.

3. Samsung: The mobile device maker and home appliance giant unveiled an environmental strategy in September 2022. The effort includes a SmartThings IoT strategy that spans low-power semiconductors and energy saving products, Samsung said at CES 2023.

4. Schneider Electric: The energy management and automation company touted Schneider Home -- a single application to control smart panels (Schneider Pulse), home batteries for energy storage (Schneider Boost), hybrid inverters for solar and storage (Schneider Inverter), and electric vehicle charging (Schneider Charge).
